Inilah Informasi singkat tentang asal mula nama bulan kalender Masehi. Dimulai dari Januari diambil dari bahasa latin, yaitu Janus , yang merupakan nama dewa pintu dalam mitologi Romawi kuno. Dewa Janus memiliki dua wajah, satu menghadap ke depan, satu lagi menghadap ke belakang. wajah yang menghadap ke depan digambarkan selalu tersenyum, sementara wajah yang menghadap belakang terlihat muram.
Februari, diambil dari bahasa Latin, Februus, yang merupakan nama dewa penyucian .Pada bulan ini bangsa Romawi kuno melakukan upacara penyucian.

Maret dinamakan dari Martius atau Mars yaitu dewa perang bagi bangsa Romawi kuno. Bulan ini adalah bulan pertama mucim semi yang merupakan mulainya kampanye militer, karena itu dinamakan dengan nama dewa perang, dulunya bulan Maret menjadi bulan pertama dalam setahun sebelum ada bulan Januari dan Februari.
April ada beberapa versi mengenai asal mula nama April. pertama, dari kata Latin ‘aperirie’ yang berarti terbuka, sebagai gambaran musim semi dimana bunga-bunga mekar. versi kedua, karena bulan-bulan sebelumnya dinamakan dari nama dewa-dewi, nama April diambil dariAphrodite yaitu sang dewi kecantikan.
Mei berbeda dari bulan-bulan sebelumnya yang mengadaptasi nama dewa-dewi Romawi, bulan Mei diambil dari nama Dewi Yunani, yaitu Maia. Dewi Maia adalah dewi kesuburan. terkadang juga disebut Dewi Fortuna, atau pembawa keberuntungan.
Juni dari Dewi Juno yang dalam mitologi Romawi adalah istri Dewa Jupiter. dalam mitologi Yunani, Dewi Juno disebut Hera, yang merupakan istri Zeus.
Juli dulunya ketika Maret menjadi bulan pertama dalam tahun Masehi , bulan Juli bernama Quintilis yang artinya kelima. sebagai penghormatan bagi kaisar Romawi, Julius Caesar, namaQuintilis diubah jadi Juli.
Agustus penamaan bulan Agustus mirip dengan bulan Juli. awalnya bernama Sextilis yang berarti bulan ke-6 namun diganti Augustus, yang merupakan kaisar Romawi.
September berarti ketujuh, diambil dari bahasa Latin”Septem” , meski bergeser menjadi bulan ke-9 nama september tidak diganti.
Oktober sama seperti September, tidak mengalami perubahan nama ketika terjadi pergeseran bulan Oktober berasal dari kata “Octo” yang berarti delapan.
November, dari bahasa Latin”Novem” artinya bulan kesembilan.
Desember , dari kata “Decem” bahasa Latin artinya Sepuluh.
